A Focus on Freshness & Flavor – We feel the ingredients are pivotal, they are the defining and driving force – great raw ingredients trump recipes every time. Experience has also taught us that good food does not have to be complicated; in fact, simplicity is key, which means giving the fewest (and also the finest) possible ingredients the greatest possible respect.

A Focus on Seasonality – We believe ‘seasonality’ expresses our desire to connect to this region, place and locality. Our basic food doctrine is ‘seasonal, organic and sincere’ – we want to cook and serve food of honesty and with integrity.

A Focus on Quality – We would much rather do a few things really well versus many things mediocre.

A Focus on Local - We believe local is key – not just for the obvious food miles issue but for the simple fact that local is fresher, provides greater variety and locally grown food just plain tastes better. At London Street our salad greens & herbs are picked fresh each morning by Caddie Gardens (Horotane Valley – just over the Port Hills); our breads are baked each day by Vic’s (Ferrymead); specialty herbs & micro greens from Eatya Greens (Tai Tapu/Halswell); great pork & bacon from Murrellen Pork (Sheffield); and even many of our beers are local (3 Boys from Heathcote and Brew Moon from Amberley).

London Street is a wine bar and restaurant in Lyttelton, New Zealand. It has a huge wine list, built up over the years by its founder, Duncan Wilcox. Duncan also helped set up the Lyttelton Farmers Market and much of its fresh produce is used in the restaurant. The menu is small, but comprehensive and aims to use the best ingredients, in season. Local ingredients, global flavours is the idea behind the food prepared here. London Street probably has the best wine list in the South Island and it also has an extensive selection of New Zealand beers. Prices are reasonable for everything and you can buy many wines by the glass.
